PRESS RELEASE: FEBRUARY 8, 2010 Broken Sound Club Moving Forward with Improvement Plan On February 2nd the members of the Broken Sound Club, Boca Raton, Fla., a residential country club community with over 1600 homes, approved a $10.5 million clubhouse improvement plan
"In this economy it was important to fully inform the membership of all phases of the project, which we did through 20 member meetings, and let them choose whether or not to go forward" stated club
president Don Schaevitz.
After a lengthy period of review by the club's Board and Long Range Planning Committee, Broken Sound selected Peacock + Lewis, Architects and Planners, and initiated a master plan in
January 2008 to re-evaluate the club's facilities in light of the greatly increased usage of these facilities. A multi-phased facilities plan was ready to move into the membership review and evaluation phase just as
the recession hit.
The project was presented to over 1000 members at 20 meetings over a two week period with the confidence that funding for the project had been committed by the club's bank.
As the
member booklet was being written for publication, the bank revised the loan terms which would have doubled the payment for each member. The club's leadership and the design team modified the plan and reduced the
overall cost while still adhering to the essential elements in order to maintain the originally presented member payment.
Many "green design" concepts such as an ice storage bank for cooling and numerous energy management technologies were preserved as a part of the project
