The Sanctuary Golf Club

Clubhouse Remodel

The original island facility was designed by the Peacock + Lewis Interior Design team over 20 years ago. The style at that time was for a more formal golf club. Since then, the membership is more diverse, younger and lifestyles are more casual. Peacock + Lewis, was asked to update the look to be more relevant to today’s lifestyle. Although the membership is diverse, we found a unifying element shared by the members. All members chose this club to call home because of its unique and remote island location.

The entry to the Sanibel is a long span elevated bridge over the aqua flats with panoramic views of water. Our design approach was to emphasize the beautiful seaside surroundings that intrigued the residents. In addition to the seaside location, this facility is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

The lobby sets the tone of casual elegance in the artwork above the fireplace, the sculpted bronze bird coffee table, driftwood stained furnishings, shell chandelier and accessories. Light fixtures brighten adjacent spaces and have a whimsical interpretation of sea creatures. Buffet tables with open legs reinforce the round chandelier shape. The inspiration for the carpet design is from the flats viewed from the bridge to the island. A 5-foot glass disc and iron chandelier centers in the Veranda Dining Room bay window overlooking the golf course. Men’s and ladies’ restrooms and locker rooms were freshened up with glass tiles and crisp white counters.

A local artist refreshed a beloved Grille Room mural with more vibrant colors and contrasts to relate to the new color scheme. Glass floating geometric pendants, stained wood trim and banquettes with welted tuxedo style furnishings give this room a strong sporting aesthetic. A new cable railing opened up an existing under-utilized patio space for dining. The interior design concept is a relaxed contemporary style inspired by the surrounding water and Audubon Sanctuary.
