In 2005 Peacock + Lewis was hired to create a comprehensive master plan for the club facilities including the main clubhouse, sales center and sports complex named The Esplanade. Phase I of the master plan implementation included improvements to Fitness, Spa, Aquatics and Casual Dining at the Esplanade.
When completed the Esplanade 20,000 sqft and contains the Tennis, Fitness, Aquatic Center and Spa. The Tennis facility includes a Pro Shop with adjacent covered terrace overlooking a exhibition court adjacent to the Esplanade Bistro where sports casual lunches and dinners are served with indoor or outdoor seating. The Fitness Center and Spa at the Esplanade are fully equipped with a variety of cardiovascular equipment, floor exercise studios, weights and strength room. The Aquatic Center features a Mediterranean style junior Olympic swimming pool, a children's wading pool, a hot tub, whirlpool, changing facilities, showers and day lockers. A Children's Activity center is located at the Esplanade for parents who would like to have their young children engage in supervised activities while they are enjoying a tennis match, a workout, a swim or a relaxing massage.
Albany is a new resort community on the southwestern end of New Providence Island in The Bahamas. opening in 2010, Albany is the collective vision of its developers, private investment company Tavistock Group and golf icons Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.
Albany features a luxury boutique hotel as well as a variety of residences that include beachfront, beach walk and golf course custom homes, equestrian ranches and luxurious marina residences designed by some of the most notable architects in the world. Albany is located in a tax-free environment and is in convenient proximity to major urban centers.
Peacock + Lewis was chosen to design the resort amenities such as the spa and fitness center, beach club (renovated Albany House), family restaurant, teen center and golf clubhouse.
Built on three existing tennis courts while the original 13,000 sqft Fitness Facility remained in operation the new 62,000 sqft, two story Sports Complex houses multiple training and fitness facilities, including cutting-edge strength and cardiovascular equipment, an aerobics room, private massage rooms, saunas and steam rooms. Physical therapy services are also available for the convenience of Members. Once completed the old facility was replaced with an expanded aquatics complex with an event lawn and outdoor poolside dining.
The new Sports Complex is more than a place to stay fit, however. It offers additional opportunities to share good times with family and friends at BallenIsles. Bistro 105 offers lunch, dinner and cocktails, while The Bistro 105 Terrace provides a more casual family-friendly dining option overlooking the aquatics complex. A separate children's play room, locker room and pool was added for the youngest members and their guest.
The Club took the advantage of an opportunity to purchase a failing 60,000 sqft three-story Medical Office Building adjacent to their campus and transform it into a cutting edge “Lifestyle Center”. The original 10’ wide lobby with 9’ high ceiling was structurally modified to create a naturally illuminated two-story atrium. The expansive 32’ x 53’ new lobby features a 26’ high ceiling with sculptural lighting and colorful artwork. To the left of the main lobby is the etched glass and polished stainless steel entry to a 9,000 sqft Spa and Salon featuring member’s relaxation suites with Whirlpools, Sauna, Steam Room, Swiss Showers, Toilets, Showers, Men’s and Women’s Lockers Rooms. The Nail and Hair Salon is located to the left of the Spa Reception on an outside wall providing natural daylight and views to an adjacent Flower Garden.
A custom designed open stairway constructed of polished stainless steel and floating mahogany treads connects the main lobby with the second floor Cyber Café and the 20,000 sqft Fitness Area. With the interactive equipment the Fitness Area is one of the most technologically advanced in the country.
The Fitness program offers classes ranging from Pilates and Golf Fitness to spinning and nutrition.
The third floor features 20,000 sqft of office space for several health related businesses including a primary care doctor, rehabilitation specialists, naturopathic specialist, dermatologist and a podiatrist. Acoustical isolation was carefully addressed between floors and selected walls due to the variety of activities housed throughout the building. Additionally, the mechanical, electric and plumbing system were replaced with innovative technology providing activity specific temperature and humidity controls throughout the building.
For this 22,000 sqft renovation and 10,000 sqft addition the challenge was to transform the existing fitness facility with multiple covered walkways between buildings into a state of the art wellness environment for all ages to enjoy. The project included expanded Fitness and Wellness areas, Pilates and Spin Studios, a Signature Spa, Cyber Cafe, Nail Salon and Fitness/Tennis retail shop.
The new Fitness area was expanded to solve the lack of stretching space and tightly spaced equipment. The latest developments in club fitness programs were incorporated including a virtual spin room and dedicated physical therapy rooms. The fitness changing areas and washrooms were completely refurbished including new lockers with relaxation space, showers, whirlpools and steam rooms.
For the Moonstone Spa the goal was to create a unique, signature spa experience. Because the available space was required to be adjacent to the existing fitness facility, the design team created a central gallery creating a spa mood and ambiance separating it from the rest of the facility while creating a unified connectivity with the interior design. Finished in warm natural tones with dark millwork accents and a custom glass drip fountain the spa arrival sequence was designed to create a sense of arrival and decompression from the rest of the building. Dedicated locker, shower and grooming areas were designed for spa guests. Wet and dry lounges for both men and women flank the six private treatment rooms all with private showers. Bamboo wood flooring, natural slate floor titles, brown marble wall tiles and stacked pebble stones accent the spaces.
The existing Cafe was relocated and remodeled with a series of outdoor corridors into a Cyber Cafe to provide an energetic, yet casual food and beverages in a casual atmosphere for connecting at the Club throughout the day. Located directly off of the new Entry Rotunda the Cyber Cafe provides a central point for members to gather, relax, rejuvenate and check their electronics before and after workouts or treatments. Various soft seating groups were created for lounging, dining and socializing. The warm, natural rich of the millwork with accents of orange and rust colors in the ceiling and fabrics provides a continuity with the rest of major spaces. Just off the Cyber Cafe is an awning-covered terrace with comfortable soft seating overlooking the activities on center court with a Pro Shop offering tennis and fitness apparel and equipment.
The Spa & Fitness Center opened in fall 2017 with state-of-the-art equipment and an array of health-focused activities. The welcoming environment motivates the Members to join a class, work out on their own, and find time for some pampering. The light-filled Fitness Room looks out over the golf course, bringing the outside in as Members use treadmills, ellipticals. recumbent bikes, Life Fitness weight machines, free weights and other equipment. The comfortable Spa has two single therapy rooms, a couples massage room and serenity areas.
The Spa was created with an inviting atmosphere to help you feel calm and comfortable the moment you walk in the door. It offers two single therapy rooms, a couples massage room, serenity areas and more.
This 18,566 sqft replacement Lifestyle Center with 3,206 sqft of covered outdoor area is situated in a natural setting adjacent to a lake. The building and interior design concept is a relaxed style inspired by nature. The facility features group and private pilates, group fitness, TRX classes, spin room, cardio, strength training, physical therapy rooms, specialty treatment rooms, retail space, relaxation lounging, a tennis shop, an outdoor tennis viewing terrace and a full-service salon. This new facility greatly increased the fitness center and spa program opportunities available to the membership.
With a commitment to exceed the expectations of its members, the Club decided it was time for the Clubhouse renovation and addition. While renovating the existing Clubhouse, some requirements had to be met, such as: Expansion of the building footprint to accommodate the addition of a casual Dining Grill Room, renovation of the Main Dining Room and expansion of the Kitchen. To achieve excellence in the design, a great deal of importance was placed on the combination of exceptional architecture and interior design along with an acute appreciation for the surrounding context and the club’s objectives.
With an innovative concept design in mind, the clubhouse Dining Room offers a blend of casual and fine dining. Through a layering of details, thoughtful timeless materials and color combinations, the exceptional Clubhouse presents a memorable, comfortable guest experience. Designed to be a community that encourages living life to the fullest, the newly renovated 28,400 square foot clubhouse offers something for everyone. The picturesque views of the 37-acre lake through expansive windows, makes it the perfect place to socialize with neighbors or enjoy lunch or dinner with friends. Surrounding the Clubhouse are the Golf, Tennis Pro Shop, a heated Swimming Pool, lighted Har-Tru Tennis Courts with stadium court seating, Tennis, Fitness Centers, Locker Rooms, Aqua Range, Putting, Chipping, and Practice Greens.
After investigating several solutions to expand the Fitness Center and Spa services to meet a growing demand for a two-story addition to the existing Clubhouse was the answer.
As Phase I of the membership approved a master plan, the new Fitness Center and Spa was created as an addition to the North end of the existing Clubhouse. In order to maintain a pleasant ambiance to the North chamber of the existing Clubhouse a two-story atrium was created as the connector between the buildings. The cardio and weight studio is on the lower or arrival level with a connection to the Golf Locker Rooms. A stair and elevator in the atrium connects to the upper level Spa and Floor Exercise Suites.
Separated with portable acoustical walls so various sized classes can be accommodated the floor exercise suite was designed to be acoustically isolated from the adjacent spa and the cardio or weight room studio below. The floor exercise suite is also isolated from the Clubhouse with an atrium space to accommodate those waiting for the next class.
Ten years after the main clubhouse was completed, a one story version of the clubhouse was designed to meet the growing demand for fitness and spa services. A more casual interior design to reflect the high energy activities of fitness and wellness was created.
Two types of space are housed within the 9,500 sqft building. Fitness spaces full of natural light, mirrors and high ceilings counter the quiet more intimate zones required for massage and relaxation. Men’s and Women’s relaxation and locker rooms are mirror images in size and shape but distinct in color pallet and accessorizing. Massage rooms are arranged between the lounges and locker rooms used by both men and women.
Fitness trainers use the welcome desk designed for point of sale and member files directly off the fitness floor and Group Wellness Rooms. Towels and cold beverages are located for easy member access adjacent to the reception desk. State of the art fitness equipment is arranged on easy to clean woven vinyl and rubber flooring. “Eurospan,” a ceiling fabric that looks like drywall, is used between painted wood beams and adds acoustic qualities to the large volume. Aerodynamic oversized fans in the volumetric fitness floor keep members comfortable during their workout. The main space has large windows overlooking the outdoor fitness lawn in front of the building which also allows generous natural daylight to fill the space.
Phase III of the facilities master plan was the successful completion of the Fitness Center and Spa Building on the site of the original administration building. The two story building houses the spa and a private pilates studio on the upper level above the Fitness Center and main arrival at the main level.
Designed in a residential Island Classical Style to coordinate with the new Clubhouse this facility was sited and structured to readily facilitate future expansions. Group Wellness, Group Movement, Physical Therapy, Weight Training, Cardio, Stretching and back of house staff support spaces are arranged on the entry level. A custom designed reception desk and retail display cases enhance the arrival experience. The reception space opens to the Fitness floor with generously spaced equipment. Fitness equipment upholstery was customized to complement the soft color palette of the building decor. Indirect lighting is used throughout to supplement the abundant natural light into the rooms.
A residential detail leads the reception to the second floor "Banyan Tree Spa at Lost Tree." The soothing color palette continues up the stairs and throughout the upper level. Upper level spaces include a Reception and Spa Retail Space, Private Pilate's Studio, Treatment Rooms, Locker Rooms, Steam Showers, a Relaxing Hospitality Lounge and Staff Support Spaces.
Home of the prestigious Memorial Tournament since 1976, Muirfield Village has been consistently ranked in the Top-20 in the United States and Top-50 in the world since it opened. Voted the No. 1 course in golf-rich Ohio. Muirfield Village Golf Club was the dream and work of Jack Nicklaus, in association with Desmond Muirhead.
Peacock + Lewis worked closely with the Nicklaus Family, some lifelong friends of Nicklaus’s, the city of Dublin, Ohio, Nicklaus LaRocca, GM and the Muirfield Staff to create a multi-phased master plan for the Clubhouse remodeling and additions which was presented to the membership in September of 2011. Phase I, which commenced construction in March 2012 and completed in May 2013, includes a New Fitness Building with a Cart Barn, Caddy Area and Bag Storage on the lower level. This new building replaced a cart barn building which was scheduled for extensive remolding and moved the fitness offering out of the upper level of the men’s locker room, not convenient for use by women.
Phase II which commenced construction after completion of the Memorial Tournament in June of 2012 and included the additions and remodeling to the existing Clubhouse. Concerns about the dated look inside and out, motivating underutilized member use space and creating permanent infrastructure to minimize the setup and tear down of structures for the annual tournament prompted the comprehensive remodeling.
Phase III which commenced construction in November of 2012; included six lodge units with viewing Terraces above and press rooms and player interview space below. Phase III was designed to preclude the need for additional temporary structures at future Memorial Tournaments. All phases were completed in time for the playing of the 2013 Memorial Golf Tournament and the 2013 Presidents Cup. Response to the new amenities by the current and potential new members has created a wait list for entry into the Club.
The building was designed to be the full access year round clubhouse providing the services of card playing, cardio, strength, endurance training, stretching, floor exercises, spa treatments and full service locker facilities with steam room showers and gracious grooming areas.
The décor of this new building was designed to be consistent with the cozy, warm and welcoming feel of the clubhouse and new corporate suites. With finishes to support the active, energetic activities of physical fitness, strength training and enhanced golf performance.
The 32,000 sqft Salon, Fitness Center and Spa addition and renovation takes its inspiration from the seaside community where it resides. It''s rich yachting history influenced the design aesthetic. Located in a setting filled with wildlife and surrounded by unspoiled natural estuaries, the color palette and artwork share this vision. Photographs of indigenous trees, birds and mangroves punctuate the interior environment as an understated connection to this specific local. A fountain creates the sense of entry between the existing structure and new addition. The existing structure (originally a golf clubhouse) with low floor to floor heights was remodeled to create an intimate spa environment. Running trim and millwork is high gloss varnished stained teak staying consistent with the nautical theme.
The dry lounge, relaxation room is outfitted with banquette seating reminiscent of a yacht's salon. Treatment rooms are designed with custom built-in storage cabinets concealing linens and equipment necessary for a seamless spa services. Indoor and outdoor wet treatment services includes a couple’s treatment room complete with a private outdoor spa. The new two story 15,000 sqft fitness center addition includes group fitness studios, pilates, spin, circuit training, functional training, and weight training above. The upper level fitness floor in the addition was on the lower level with vaulted ceilings with ribbed mill work creating a dramatic effect in this high energy space. Iron sculptures of men balancing, exercising and repelling are scattered throughout the fitness areas for visual interest and inspiration. In addition to physical health and wellness, a healthy choice cafe is centrally located for members to gather and rejuvenate before and after fitness and spa services. Common area flooring is a teak and holly style commonly used on yacht decks. Inset wood burgee was included on both levels. Furnishings canvas upholstery and teak frames were designed to coordinate with the interior architecture. Manicure, pedicure and hair stations round out the health, wellness and beauty offerings.
The PGA National Sports & Racquet Club has long been renowned as the exclusive, private fitness club of choice for healthy travelers and elite athletes. But Palm Beach Gardens has never seen anything like the completely new Sports and Racquet Club, at PGA National Resort & Spa. The 33,000 sqft Private Club was recently transformed by a $4 million upgrade. Including the latest in innovative equipment, training rooms, an indoor racquetball court which can be converted into an indoor volleyball court, a five lane saltwater lap pool and spin cycle room with video monitors.
The new Fitness Center and Tennis Shop Building is located West of the Aquatics Complex and East of the Tennis Courts overlooking the Atlantic Ocean to enhance the casual lifestyle amenity offerings. The upper level of the new building connects back to the current Clubhouse for convenience with access to the existing Beach Club and new Card Rooms Suite.
The new building was designed with the same exterior materials and forms to blend nicely with the existing Clubhouse Buildings. Daylight harvesting techniques, views to the ocean and energy efficiency were considerations in the forms, finishes and orientation for this new building.

The new building was designed with the same exterior materials and forms to blend nicely with the existing Clubhouse Buildings. The concept for the new clubhouse was to create a village of structures and amenities with many indoor and outdoor gathering spaces throughout the complex providing the sense of discovery and excitement similar to what can be found throughout small villages and towns in old work Europe with a contemporary twist to balance the familiar with the unexpected.
The experience starts on the Village Green to the northeast and is completed with views to the 18th hole to the southwest. Between the two is a new design paradigm for club amenities which includes as much outdoor covered space and courtyard space as indoor air-conditioned space. As with historic European villages, the spaces making up the “clubhouse” provides lawns, courtyards and plazas for large groups to gather under an event tent but does include traditional ballroom in the clubhouse. Designed to maximize utilization, indoor and outdoor spaces connect to each other to expand capacity when needed. The interiors were designed to embrace the flow of natural day light and sparkle with the artful artificial light when the sun sets.
With a premium placed on outdoor living, large courtyards placed among the interior spaces provides daylight into the adjacent rooms to minimize the need for artificial illumination during the day.
The forms and articulation of the buildings with covered loggias, large archways and operable glazed openings provide a connectivity of indoor space to outdoor living space and allow fresh air to flow through the buildings on nice weather days.
This “Italianate” Mediterranean clubhouse was built in two phases. Phase I included a 30,000 sqft two story Golf Shop and Cart Barn Building. Built with the initial golf course and practice facilities. Phase II included the three story 108,000 sqft Clubhouse.
The Fitness Center and Spa Treatment Rooms are located in the center of the main level between the Men's and Women's Locker Rooms. The Fitness Center and Spa Facilities can be accessed from the main lobby or casual gallery leading to the Golf Building. The cardio/weights studio was designed with a view overlooking a natural preserve. Both Amenities can be accessed off of the flanking Locker Rooms which are both equipped with Whirlpools, Steam Rooms and Saunas.
A spectacular 6,000 sqft indoor/outdoor oceanfront fitness center was designed as one of the finest and most complete hotel and resort fitness experiences of its kind. Perched atop the existing Beach Club Complex, previously challenged as an open terrace event space due to the robust sea breezes, the new wellness venue provides breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean through 10’ high arched mahogany windows. The outdoor terrace now provides an expansive space for outdoor exercises.
The interior concept is contemporary and clean with nods to the beachfront location. A sleek stainless steel railing echoes an expansive arc outlining the flooring to separate cardio from functional space. On one side of the railing the latest trend in fitness flooring, woven vinyl, gets a modern twist in metallic fray and bright blue stripes. The other side features gray washed wood flooring. A tranquil shade of blue paint coats the walls throughout, accented by a bright white high gloss lacquer on the trim and hospitality stations. A textured gloss white tile trims the wall mirrors while a 7’ x 12’ LED screen depicts images of the latest sporting event to stimulate the workout.
The center of the space features a 16’ high vaulted ceiling with acoustical material and uniquely designed light fixtures of white acrylic panels in the shape of waves beyond. Highlights of this contemporary facility isn’t all about the design. It includes the most advanced fitness solutions and equipment including Technogym’s Artis collection, Kinesis One and Life Fitness Synergy 360.

The Loxahatchee Club was well known in the golf community as a high end golf club. Recognizing the growth in fitness and spa amenities at club communities, the leadership surveyed their members to determine their interest in such a facility. The membership voted with enthusiasm to proceed with the new facility along with an entry to the community, a new pool and deck area. In response to the Tennis, Pool, Fitness and Spa desires, the facility includes a Tennis, Spa, Fitness, Retail Shop, Floor Exercise Room, Locker Rooms, Steam Rooms, Massage, Facial Treatment Rooms, Concierge Stations, Lounges, Pilates Room, Cardio Studio, Weight Studio, Snack Bar, Kitchen, Poolside Restrooms and Pool Deck Dining.

Stranger than anticipated utilization by the membership has prompted discussions for future expansions of the services programs and allocated space.
This 6,200 sqft facility consists of a fitness room with state-of-the-art cardio equipment. A dedicated stretch room, a studio for group exercise classes, a spa with two treatment rooms, newly appointed locker rooms, an expanded lap pool and pool deck.
The arrival space offers a place to gather before and after workout, fitness class, or spa treatment. The use of oyster shells speaks to the seaside location of this property. The monolithic texture of the oyster shell wall is an illuminated backdrop to the check-in desk. Wood tile floor compliments the oyster shell palette and is easy to maintain. The reception desk doubles as a retail display with ADA height counter integrated into the design. A fresh clean arrival space sets high expectation for the healthy activities in the adjacent Group Movement and Fitness Rooms. The sculptural edge-lit LED Neuron pendant fixture captures movement and energy floating overhead. Clean white painted beams and wood planked ceiling are accented with cove lighting.
The Group Exercise Room is designed to continue the uplifting, spacious, uncluttered feel with indirect lighting, mirrored walls and large windows overlooking the Tennis Courts. Engineered wood flooring is compatible with the lobby wood look porcelain tile. The strength training or cardio studio elicits the same clean, uncluttered appearance with custom upholstered trim on the equipment matching the soft pastel colors selected for the walls and flooring. Panoramic views to the surrounding lushly landscaped outdoor exercise amenities stimulate the workout environment inside.
An expanded lap pool and deck were created with shell imbedded concrete pavers and wave pattern stackable outdoor furniture. Pool tiles and umbrellas compliment the tropical landscape and sky.
The hall connecting the outdoor Pool to interior Fitness and Spa is infused with a tropical palette by the custom Jon Allen abstract metal wall panels. The metal is a medium that conveys power and demonstrates the brilliance of reflective light.
Washrooms, Grooming, Showers and Locker Rooms continue the clean tropical ambiance with the use of reflective glass mosaics, the continuation of the wood look tile, white millwork and frameless glass. While the original facility experienced a 2%-member usage, the new center has seen an increase of over 70% in usage.
As a central gathering spot, the Aquatics Complex was remodeled with new finishes, furnishings, landscaping, and lighting to create “resort-like feel."
Woodfields Pool Complex features a 12,000 sqft lagoon-style heated swimming pool and a separate lap pool. Lush tropical landscape and striking stonework surrounds the area. A poolside fire pit lights up the evening as you linger, listening to music and enjoying the gorgeously lit view. The children also have their own separate, fenced in interactive water playground, complete with play fountains and a water slides.
Housed on the entire second floor of the cascades building, the reimagined approximately 16,000 sqft fitness area was expanded and renovated to include an enlarged spin room, reorganized and expanded cardio, functional, circuit equipment and free weight areas. A clean, contemporary design was created to reflect today’s fitness lifestyle.
Previously occupied by the "Kids Korner" which moved to a new building, the Blendz Café was also relocated to the first floor to allow for a larger seating capacity. A complete interior finish renovation created a chic, yet casual feel for smoothies and lite bites.
Housed on the first-floor of the Cascades Building, the Salon was expanded from approximately 950 sqft to 2,000 sqft to include a dedicated reception and boutique area to allow for waiting and retail space as well as a dedicated hair salon area. The number of hair stations was increased as well as the manicure and pedicure stations. A complete interior finish renovation created a beautiful contemporary design with luxury details.
More than 1,000 children call this private country club community home, with the unique identity in South Florida as the youthful, family friendly club. The 4,200 sqft Children's Clubhouse was built specifically for them in mind. The floor plan was organized into 3 distinct areas, the Lobby, “Kids Korner” and Game Room.
The finishes were carefully selected to emphasize the free-spirited nature of children. Vinyl upholstery and woven vinyl flooring were used for easy maintenance and cleaning, while selected in fun, bright colors and displayed in unique patterns to inspire creativity.
The Lobby, designed for gathering, check-in and registration, has a 25ft clerestory ceiling above the reception desk in a beautiful sky-blue paint color with a grouping of colorful, sea urchin inspired light fixtures. Vibrant accent strips of woven vinyl were carefully placed to coordinate with the same color vinyl covered bench for slipping shoes on and off. A set of colorful, sea inspired artwork hangs above each bench. The placement of the reception desk along with frameless glass partitions to both the Kids Korner and the Game Room allow for staff visual connection to both adjacent spaces.
The “Kids Korner” for numerous children’s activities, babysitting services and play for the youngest members ages 6 months to 7 years, was specifically designed into various sections for each type of activity or play. Colorful circular patterns of blue, orange and pink in the floor along with complimentary colored circular dropped ceilings designate areas for computers, a baby area for crawling, reading and quiet play. Smartly designed, curved bookcases follow the circular floor pattern of each space to help section off each area while doubling as much needed storage for toys and games. A full kitchen along with an arts and crafts area are also provided.
The Game Room, for children 8 years or older, was specially designed to give teens their own identity, a place to play and hang out safely without being overly supervised. Video and arcade games, pinball, air hockey and more will keep older children busy for hours. This space also used colorful circular floor patterns and dropped ceiling designs (here in more teen appropriate colors of lime green, purple and dark blue) to designate areas for television or lounging, video games and arcade games.
