In 2005 Peacock + Lewis was hired to create a comprehensive master plan for the club facilities including the main clubhouse, sales center and sports complex named The Esplanade. Phase I of the master plan implementation included improvements to fitness, spa, aquatics and casual dining at the Esplanade.
One of the most high-profile projects in The Bahamas - the $1.3 billion Albany Golf and Beach Resort community includes dozens of luxury homes plus amenities such as a marina for large vessels, kids academy and water park, restaurants indoor/outdoor bars, a spa/fitness center and a spectacular golf clubhouse overlooking the links style Ernie Els designed course.
Built on three existing tennis courts while the original 13,000 sqft Fitness Facility remained in operation the new 62,000 sqft, two story Sports Complex houses multiple training and fitness facilities, including cutting-edge strength and cardiovascular equipment, an aerobics room, private massage rooms, saunas and steam rooms.
A spectacular 6,000 square foot indoor-outdoor oceanfront fitness center was designed as one of the finest and most complete resort/hotel fitness experiences of its kind. Perched atop the existing Beach Club complex, previously challenged as an open terrace event space due to the robust sea breezes, the new wellness venue provides breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean through 10’ high arched mahogany windows.
The club took the advantage of an opportunity to purchase a failing 60,000 square foot, three story Medical Office Building adjacent to their campus and transform it into a cutting edge “Lifestyle Center." The original 10’ wide lobby with 9’ high ceiling was structurally modified to create a naturally illuminated 2 story atrium.
For this 22,000 sqft renovation and 10,000 sqft addition the challenge was to transform the existing fitness facility with multiple covered walkways between buildings into a state of the art wellness environment for all ages to enjoy. The project included expanded Fitness and Wellness areas, Pilates and Spin Studios, a Signature Spa, Cyber Cafe, Nail Salon and Fitness/Tennis retail shop.
After investigating several solutions to expand the Fitness/Spa services to meet a growing demand for a two-story Fitness addition to the existing Clubhouse was the answer.
As Phase I of the membership approved master plan, the new fitness center/spa was created as an addition to the north end of the existing clubhouse. In order to maintain a pleasant ambiance to the north chamber of the existing clubhouse a two-story atrium was created as the connector between the buildings.
Ten years after the main clubhouse was completed, a one story version of the clubhouse was designed to meet the growing demand for fitness and spa services. A more casual interior design to reflect the high energy activities of fitness and wellness was created.
Phase III of the facilities master plan was the successful completion of the Fitness/Spa Building on the site of the original administration building. The two story building houses the spa and a private Pilates studio on the upper level above the Fitness Center and main arrival at the main level.
The Loxahatchee Club was well known in the golf community as a high end golf club. Recognizing the growth in fitness and spa amenities at club communities, the leadership surveyed their members to determine their interest in such a facility.
Home of the prestigious Memorial Tournament since 1976, Muirfield Village has been consistently ranked in the Top 20 in the United States and Top 50 in the world since it opened. Voted the No. 1 course in golf-rich Ohio. Muirfield Village Golf Club was the dream and work of Jack Nicklaus, in association with Desmond Muirhead.
The 32,000 sqft spa, salon and fitness center addition and renovation takes its inspiration from the seaside community where it resides. Its rich yachting history influenced the design aesthetic. Located in a setting filled with wildlife and surrounded by unspoiled natural estuaries, the color palette and artwork share this vision.
The new Fitness/Tennis Shop Building is located west of the Aquatics Complex and east of the tennis courts overlooking the Atlantic Ocean to enhance the casual lifestyle amenity offerings. The upper level of the new building connects back to the current clubhouse for convenience with access to the existing Beach Club and new Card Rooms suite. The new building was designed with the same exterior materials and forms to blend nicely with the existing clubhouse buildings. Daylight harvesting techniques, views to the ocean and energy efficiency were considerations in the forms, finishes and orientation for this new building.
This “Italianate” Mediterranean clubhouse was built in phases. Phase I included a 30,000 S.F. two-story golf shop/cart barn building built with the initial golf course and practice facilities. Phase II included the three-story 108,000 S.F. clubhouse.
In 2009 the membership approved at a multi-phase Clubhouse and sports club improvement plan including a two story Sports Club addition. The new addition provided the club the casual lifestyle amenities needed to meet member demands and to remain competitive in the marketplace.
