KEY LARGO, FLORIDA
The 32,000 sqft Salon, Fitness Center and Spa addition and renovation takes its inspiration from the seaside community where it resides. It”s rich yachting history influenced the design aesthetic. Located in a setting filled with wildlife and surrounded by unspoiled natural estuaries, the color palette and artwork share this vision. Photographs of indigenous trees, birds and mangroves punctuate the interior environment as an understated connection to this specific local. A fountain creates the sense of entry between the existing structure and new addition. The existing structure (originally a golf clubhouse) with low floor to floor heights was remodeled to create an intimate spa environment. Running trim and millwork is high gloss varnished stained teak staying consistent with the nautical theme.
The dry lounge, relaxation room is outfitted with banquette seating reminiscent of a yacht’s salon. Treatment rooms are designed with custom built-in storage cabinets concealing linens and equipment necessary for a seamless spa services. Indoor and outdoor wet treatment services includes a couple’s treatment room complete with a private outdoor spa. The new two story 15,000 sqft fitness center addition includes group fitness studios, pilates, spin, circuit training, functional training, and weight training above. The upper level fitness floor in the addition was on the lower level with vaulted ceilings with ribbed mill work creating a dramatic effect in this high energy space. Iron sculptures of men balancing, exercising and repelling are scattered throughout the fitness areas for visual interest and inspiration. In addition to physical health and wellness, a healthy choice cafe is centrally located for members to gather and rejuvenate before and after fitness and spa services. Common area flooring is a teak and holly style commonly used on yacht decks. Inset wood burgee was included on both levels. Furnishings canvas upholstery and teak frames were designed to coordinate with the interior architecture. Manicure, pedicure and hair stations round out the health, wellness and beauty offerings.
