VILLAGE OF GOLF, FL
The Country Club of Florida is located in the serene hamlet of The Village of Golf, Florida. When this residential community was founded in 1956 by Carlton Blount, it was a seasonal getaway for those escaping the harsh winters of the Midwest to play golf on a beautiful Robert Bruce Harris designed golf course and relax in a Florida environment naturally inhabited by many native birds. Competition for new members, proximity to expanding South Florida development activity and limited opportunity for residential expansion within this exclusive gated community forced the club to improve their aging but comfortable facilities to remain viable.
This new clubhouse was designed in a timeless, low country style with one story of the two-story structure built into the hill. Inside the design is a casual, traditional style with parlor-scaled rooms to promote a quiet elegance for the members to comfortably enjoy their tropical winter retreat.
To attract younger golf-serious members, the men’s and women’s locker rooms were designed with adjacent card rooms and lounges with bar service and views to the golf course, nicely appointed wet areas with custom home quality finishes, and access to a common covered porch overlooking the practice facilities which the club is known for.
The new club features both formal and casual dining venues. A stained millwork grille room with a sweeping bay window overlooks a covered brick patio and the 18th green. This new casual dining venue has been well received by all members and their guests for lunch and dinner. For those desiring a formal food and beverage experience, the dining room was designed with lighter painted millwork, a central fireplace, and telescoping walls to “right size” the room and create an intimate setting for various sized functions.
The lower-level golf operations, fitness facilities, and indoor golf instruction studio were built into the bluff with a golf shop overlooking the practice facilities.
